Stepper Motor Controller Board Introduction

Controller Board Design

The controller uses a compact layout for small installation spaces. Therefore, users can install it in confined devices, control boxes, and prototype fixtures.

In addition, the board layout helps simplify wiring. As a result, users can connect the power supply, motor output, limit switch, and adjustment pins more easily.

Stepping Motor Controller Has 4 Operating Modes

Operating Mode Overview

The NFP-PWM-ST2445 controller provides four operating modes. Therefore, users can choose a suitable mode based on the required motion pattern.

In addition, each mode uses different button and potentiometer functions. As a result, users should confirm the mode before wiring the motor and limit switches.

Four Operating Modes

  1. Normal Mode 1: S1 starts or stops the motor. S2 controls forward and reverse rotation. W2 adjusts speed with the potentiometer. In addition, users can connect two external limit switches to P3 when limit reversing is needed.
  2. Normal Mode 2: S1 starts forward rotation, and S2 starts reverse rotation. Any key stops the motor. Moreover, W2 adjusts speed. If the motor reaches a limit switch, it stops. Then, pressing the opposite direction button makes the motor reverse.
  3. Jogging Mode: Press S1 for forward jog and release it to stop. Press S2 for reverse jog and release it to stop. Therefore, this mode works well for manual positioning.
  4. Automatic Reciprocating Mode: S1 starts or stops the motor, and S2 controls forward or reverse direction. W2 adjusts speed, while W1 adjusts the automatic reciprocating steps. As a result, the motor can reciprocate within the step range set by W1.

Miniature Stepper Motor Driver Board Speed Controller

W1 Travel Adjustment

W1 controls automatic reciprocating travel. Therefore, users can adjust the travel range according to the required motion distance.

Turn W1 counterclockwise for shorter travel. In addition, turn W1 clockwise for longer travel.

P1 Travel Expansion Pin

P1 works as the automatic reciprocating travel adjustment expansion pin. Therefore, users can select the travel range through the expansion setting.

In the short travel position, W1 adjusts from 1 to 200 steps. However, in the long travel position, W1 adjusts from 200 to 1200 steps.

W2 Speed Adjustment

W2 controls motor speed. Therefore, users can adjust the stepper motor speed according to the application requirement.

Turn W2 counterclockwise to decrease speed. In addition, turn W2 clockwise to increase speed.

P2 Speed Adjustment Extension Pin

P2 works as the speed adjustment extension pin. Therefore, users can select slow speed mode or fast speed mode.

In slow speed mode, W2 adjusts from 3.125 seconds per step to 0.0625 seconds per step. As a result, the motor can reach up to 16 steps per second.

In fast speed mode, W2 adjusts from 0.0625 seconds per step to 0.00125 seconds per step. Therefore, the motor can reach up to 800 steps per second.

P3, P5, and P6 Pin Functions

  • P3 external travel switch: Users can connect external travel switches to P3. In addition, P3 can also accept high and low level signals from different sensors, and low level is valid.
  • P5 stepper motor output: Connect motor wires to P5 according to the selected 2-phase 4-wire or 4-phase 5-wire stepper motor. Therefore, users should follow the characters printed on the board.
  • P6 power input: Connect a DC 5V to 12V power supply to P6. Moreover, users should confirm polarity before power-on.

Wiring and Setup Notes

  • Check motor type: Confirm whether the motor uses 2-phase 4-wire or 4-phase 5-wire wiring before connection.
  • Check power input: Use only a suitable DC 5V to 12V power supply. Therefore, avoid overvoltage.
  • Check limit switch wiring: If the system needs travel protection, connect external limit switches to P3.
  • Test at low speed first: Start testing at a low speed. As a result, users can reduce motion and wiring risks.
  • Adjust gradually: Change W1 and W2 slowly. Moreover, check motion direction and travel range after each change.
